Healthy Eating

There is probably not a more popular subject among Americans today than healthy eating. It is something that we are being forced to look at due to the rapid growth of the fast food industry and the busy lifestyles that promote it. Everyone talks about needing to lose a few pounds around the center, but many don’t know what to do about it. With the increased risk of disease and heart problems we must begin considering a different lifestyle of eating habits.

There are many eating plans out there that tell you what to eat and what not to eat but many people forget that “how” you eat may be just as important when it comes to your habits. Too many people have developed habits of eating fast and at the wrong times, which promote an unhealthy lifestyle as well. Some important tips to remember are to take time when chewing your food. Our lifestyles promote a “hurry up and eat” habit but we need to slow down some when we chew. Another is to not to eat when you are too stressed, as this may interfere with the digestion process.

Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Quit eating when you feel full instead of thinking you have to clean your plate. Many times, we just simply overeat because it’s there. Another big mistake that most people make is eating too much at too few times. We tend to eat big once or twice a day as opposed to eating less food more frequently. Our metabolism works better when it is given the right foods several times a day instead of an overload once or twice. Experts agree that eating six or seven small meals a day is the best. Don’t worry about changing everything all in one day. Instead, commit to starting with small changes that will lead to a healthier lifestyle in the long run.
