As we get older, it’s not as much fun to play around in the dirt as it used to be. Bending over for hours tending to a full-scale garden can lead to sore muscles and stiff backs. This is one of the reasons that container gardening is becoming more and more popular. If you have a limited amount of space, time, or energy to devote to gardening, consider a container garden. You can surround yourself with beautiful plants and flowers with just a fraction of the investment that a full-scale garden demands.
Container gardening is when you place your plants in containers instead of into the ground. Containers can be anything from a teacup to a large wooden barrel. Along with the obvious advantages of saving space and time, container gardening is mobile. You can move your containers into or out of the sun, and even into shelter if the weather turns bad. You can even rearrange your flower and color combinations whenever it suits your mood. When planting your flowers in a container, you can use fertilized potting soil instead of digging up the clay and rocks in the ground. Container gardening eliminates the need for constant weeding.
You do need to water your plants more often when they are in a container instead of the ground. Regular grooming is also needed to keep your plants looking their best. Remove faded flowers and yellow leaves as soon as they appear. Cut back your fast growing plants to keep them from overwhelming your containers. With container gardens, you can have all the beauty of a back yard garden, on a smaller scale.
