Healthy Eating

To maintain our body temperature, brain function, voluntary and involuntary muscle activity we need energy (calories). Daily norm of calories depends on age, gender, and physical activities. For instance, a 19 year old male needs an average of 3000 calories a day while a female needs 2000. Food, the source of our energy, is a mixture of carbohydrates, fat, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fibers. For proper function, growth, repair and healing our body needs these components in appropriate proportions.

Healthy eating is keeping proper proportions of nutrients and controlling the daily calories. There is no ideal or universal formula for that. Moreover there are conflicting diet formulas presented by different health and commercial organizations. If we want to look and feel healthy we have to know the basics of healthy eating and observe the rules. Healthy eating can reduce the risk of many chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporoses, and different types of cancer. Also it can help regulate blood pressure and cholesterol.

To avoid obesity we need to cut down on fast food, junk food and soft drinks. To get maximum benefits from food we have to know what to eat and also how to eat. Here are some tips. Digestion begins in the mouth; therefore you need to slowly and carefully chew your food and mix it with digestive enzymes from saliva. It makes the further breakdown in stomach easier.  To avoid the the negative effects of stress, never eat when tired, upset or disturbed. Don’t eat while working, driving or watching TV. Stop eating before you are full.  These are the basics of healthy eating.
