Here in the United States most people have no idea what it means to make healthy eating choices. Most of us have grown up on fast food and when we do cook for ourselves, we tend to open cans or boxes of processed foods for a simple, quick meal. Most of these products are loaded with sugar, preservatives and hydrogenated oils (trans-fats). These substances, when ingested over time, become a recipe for disaster. It’s no wonder Americans, Europeans and others who eat these things are dying from degenerative diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease!
Wrong food choices, combined with a sedentary lifestyle, will make you sick and fat. There are more overweight people in the world today than in any other time in history, because people are not eating the way their Creator intended. Eating natural foods will automatically slim you down. The first thing you need to do is become a label reader. If a product contains chemicals or man-made ingredients, leave it alone. Some of you are probably wondering how you can eat healthy on your limited income. Though difficult, it can be done. Watch for sales in local stores and stock up on produce, grains, beans, fish and nuts while they’re priced low.
The produce isle is your best friend, as far as your health is concerned. Try to eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The darker the color they have, the better they are for you. Color equates with nutrition and each color contains a different type of vitamin/mineral combination, along with disease-fighting phytochemicals. In as much as you are able, buy organic and eat 5 servings per day. Also important to your health are whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds and wild-caught fish, especially salmon.
