Beeswax Candles –Why Choose Beeswax?

Beeswax candles are a wonderful and natural alternative to standard paraffin candles.  They produce a bright flame, they don’t drip, don’t produce a lot of black smoke, they tend to burn longer and they produce a fragrant honey odor. Another interesting fact is that beeswax is said to create negative ions that clean the air while burning.

If you're passionate about using natural products or avoiding excess chemical production, beeswax may be the perfect choice for you.  Beeswax candles tend to be beneficial for people with allergies because they do not put chemicals or soot into the air, creating an allergen-free zone.  Many people find these candles to be pleasantly aromatherapeutic because they burn clean and put off a sweet perfume without additives, creating an instant feeling of wellbeing.

Beeswax candles are made from the “cappings” of honeycomb cells.  When honey is harvested, the honeycomb must be scraped to allow the honey to flow free from the cells, and the scrapings are called cappings.  These cappings are cleaned, melted, and formed into bulk beeswax.  The process is simple and organic. The best beeswax candles are smooth and seemingly soft to the touch.  If the wax feels too stiff, a hardening agent may have been used.  To some producers, this is a no-no.

By and large, beeswax candles are an environmentally friendly, organic, clean burning, healthy and beautiful alternative to their paraffin counterparts.  If you’re trying to live “green” but you’ve never considered decorating with beeswax candles, you don’t know what you’re missing!
