Kermit the Frog’s famous saying “It’s not easy being green” has become more and more obsolete in recent years. Nowadays, being green has never been easier. Green living has become a trend that has become a new lifestyle for many people. People have become more cognizant of their carbon footprint and energy consumption. Most would agree that green living is not only the right thing to do for mother Earth, it is also the right thing to do for our pocketbooks in many cases.
There are many simple ways to convert your lifestyle to a more eco-friendly way of life. Summer, for instance, is one of the busiest travel times of the year for family households. To help reduce your carbon footprint while traveling, try finding more direct routes to your destination. Make a list of everything you need for your trip and get them all in one outing. Right before you leave your home, unplug all unessential electronic devices from the outlet (electronic devices suck power from the outlet even when they are turned off). Once you’ve arrived at your destination, rent a hybrid vehicle. At check-in, request that your hotel only replace sheets and towels that you leave on the floor, and turn the A/C off when you are gone. Most foods at restaurants and markets travel thousands of miles by boat, truck, and/or rail before you see them on your plate. Try finding local restaurants and farmers markets that support local and organic produce when dining.
By following even just a few of these simple steps when planning your next vacation, you will be doing your part to help reduce significant amounts of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere, and save some green of your own at the same time.
