Children Eating Healthy

Thinking of children's nutrition may be one of the most challenging things parents face when raising children.  While our children deserve the very best, sometimes the modern food choice that our kids enjoy is not always the healthiest.  The trend regarding food has changed over the past 20 years.  There has been a change in lifestyles, cooking patterns, and also a different thought pattern about food and health.

Foods that are good for you include fruits and vegetables such as grapes, blueberries, citrus fruits, carrots, broccoli and tomatoes.  Fiber such as oatmeal, oat bran, and beans are good for you as well. There are fresh food co-ops springing up across the country consisting of many farm families banding together to produce a variety of organic food for purchase nationwide.

Statistics show that 35 percents of our nation's children are overweight and children born by the first of this century will die younger than our parents.  Chef Ann Cooper, director of nutrition services in the Berkeley Unified School District, is currently working with schools across the U.S.  She is putting her strategies to work in assisting with providing fresh all natural lunches to students.  She is involved with the School Lunch Program on a national level.  She encourages the schools to serve healthy foods, make more healthy available and make better nutritional food choices for all school children.  Chef Ann believes we need to start teaching our children now, passing on the information, making their future a much brighter, healthier one.
