Just about everyone knows what it means to be “green” these days. Even kids are talking about it in the schools. Everyone is attempting to make the planet a better place by being more environmentally conscious. We are recycling more and cutting down on harmful chemicals, sprays and other things in order to become more responsible. More and more cities are thinking “green” now by passing stricter guidelines on the building codes with plenty of green space in new construction. Many cities are even starting to buy smaller city vehicles such as electric subcompacts for inner city work.
Many stores like “Livingreen” in California are giving customers a choice when it comes to the type of products they want to buy for their home and personal use. Many home owners are now "going green" by doing things such as changing to lower watt light bulbs, recycling papers and cans, and using all natural cleaners.
A lot of people believe that they have to do big things or buy different stuff to think about being green, but that’s not true. There are many simple things that a person can do around the house that will help conserve energy. Try replacing the more frequently used bulbs with some good fluorescents. Another good way to conserve energy is to switch the settings on your appliances to the “save energy” mode and to turn down the water heater to 120 degrees. To save water, change the shower heads to good water-conserving types.
With the United States being responsible for 20% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions; it’s time we think seriously about become “green” and doing our part.
